Russian Council of baron Gen. Piotr Wrangel was re-established in 2016 with the aim at delegitimising Russian Federation and opposing President Putin’s claim to represent Russia’s social, historical and cultural heritage. Its MANIFESTO published in February 2016.
Recent political development and the war in Ukraine show that a) transformation of the Russian Federation into a western-stye liberal democracy is only possible through its military defeat or foreign occupation, b) ‘cancellation’ of Russia or its fragmentation into multiple statelets and principalities will lead to chaos and destruction on an epic scale, c) neither liberalism, nor any of the so-called ‘opposition groups’ of Russian liberals in exile have necessary support within the Russian Federation; no ‘liberal option’ is available or will become available in the near future.
We at Russian Council believe in progressive conservatism, namely a) restoration of the statehood prior to the coup d’état in March 1917, b) restitution of the Russian national wealth, as well as its legal, social, cultural and political heritage, c) efficient central government combined with broad and coherent devolution, d) cancellation of soviet legacy, putinism and Neo-soviet revanchism.
We believe that vulgar conservatism propagated by Putin and his clique should be replaced by an effective conservative agenda, at the centre of which lies the idea of transformation of the Russian Federation — from mafia camp into a modern, democratic state. Resurrected Russia, in line with historical precedent will become the cornerstone of European prosperity, stability and security — social, economic and military.
Progressive conservatism means not the return of the Russian imperialism, but the a close alliance between Europe and Russia. Russian Council stands for
- Europe from Lisbon to Vladivostok,
- international law and the UN as a guarantor of Russia’s sovereignty,
- universality of human rights,
- viable civil society rooted in history and enriched with traditions and cultural heritage.
Russian Council advocates for Russia’s return to the european family of nations, re-establishment of cultural and economic links with Europe, Russia’s political neutrality, non-alignment and disarmament.
